Hand drawing for WOYWW

I've had a busy week
but not in the art room,
I'm afraid.

Little Miss had a fight with a
softball in school sport last Friday
and the softball won.
She had a bloodshot and very swollen
eye, nose, and cheekbone
so there were lots of kisses and cuddles.

Then I was still waiting for the double sided tape to arrive,
which it finally did, late on monday afternoon.
So I could finish my Egbert Notebooks
yesterday.

Today I had to run errands in the morning
but now I'm in drawing mode.
The Theme for this weeks APR is Pen, Ink and Paper
so I have started a pencil drawing of my hand
holding a pen
and hope to ink it tomorrow.

So, at last, here is my desk.

I'm in the family room again today as it's too cold in the office.

These are my dads drafting pens from the old days and I decided to draw them
for the  APR theme.

This is still early stages
and looking at this photo,
the pens look a little drunk.
Will have to fix that.

If you are wondering how I drew my hand,
I'm left handed and held a pen in my right
and pencil in my left.
Once I get the shading and proportions right,
I will have a go at inking it.

Haven't done a proper ink drawing in years,
so fingers crossed.

I'm never alone when I draw in the family room.
Charlie the parrot is right behind me,
Smudge the guinea pig is just to my right
and the chooks are at the window next to me.

Here is a photo of my Egbert Books.

I think they look quite cute.
I've put one in my Etsy shop to see how it goes.

Well, I had better get back to my drawing.
Why don't you pop on over to Julia's
Stamping Ground and see what
everyone else has on their desk
for WOYWW.

Hope you all enjoy the Olympics,
I'll be watching.

  11. Hi Von,
    Thanks for your lovely message.
I think pen & ink is such a great skill and hands are particularly hard to draw. It looks terrific.
I must say I'd love to have chooks but it's a big fraught where I am, and with cats.
The other thing that just arrived in my head is that Egbert could do with a mate called Ethelred. The original was one of the Saxon kings of England, a bit of a klutz by all accounts. Just a thought.
    Take care,

  14. Hello! My first WOYWW today, and since I'm in at 128 (bit late, I know), I thought I'd visit all the 8s first of all and then see how much further I get! Amazing drawing of your hand... and how wonderful to have your dad's pens as part of the project, a real sense of the draughtsmanship passing down through the family.

  15. I like how you are never alone. The chicken looks like she'd like to be in the house with you, visiting with the parrot and guinea pig. I did wonder how you drew your own hand or wondered if you had a hand model. Happy to see Egbert.

  18. Love the hand drawing, Vonny! I did a zentangle of my hand a while back - you can find it on my blog if you look for "Zentangle drawing zentangle drawing zentangle" lol - it was actually a picture of a hand drawing a hand drawing a zentangle! Lots of fun. Very Escher-esque!

Love your creative space. It's so light and airy, and all the animals to keep you company. Love the way the chickens come to the window - I am sure they enjoy company!

So sorry to hear about Little Miss and hope her face is recovering. A nasty experience - not just the pain, but the shock too. Poor little thing.

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog - after I've mopped up inky mess (I try to keep different paper towels for different colours) they are so beautiful that you just can't throw them away! I made some "hand-made" paper with some of them recently (also on my blog) and now I'm generating such a lot with my Dylusions ink sprays, I'm going to make flowers from them. If you've got gel medium in your studio there's always something you can do with what everybody else considers to be rubbish!

Glad you liked my annotated photo this week. Serial killer? I could MURDER a bowl of cornflakes...

    Happy WOYWW,
