Dark and shadowy for WOYWW

Here's my desk mess this week.
I sometimes wonder how on earth I manage
to paint in that, but I am a grot
and can't create if I'm not surrounded
by mess.
That big mess on the wall at the right
is my telephone directory.
I don't have a little book to keep phone numbers in
so I just write a phone number on a piece of paper and staple it
to the last one I put up there.
Sounds crazy but I always seem to find the number I need.
The bits on the clips on the wall
are school notes for Little Miss
and the rest is my mess.

I am doing a dark and shadowy painting for APR
this week.
The theme is shadows.
It's still at the rough in stage
but will be a staircase disappearing into the darkness
when it's finished.
I will be posting the finished picture
along with a few photos
of the painting as it progresses
later in the week.

Well, this painting won't finish itself,
so I had better keep going.

Now you've seen my mess for the week,
hop on over to Julia's
and see what all the others
have on their desks
this wednesday.

I hope all the bloggers on the east coast of America
are all safe and well
in that awful storm.

  1. Hi Vonny,
I can identify with your creating space.I can't work "tidy" either. My room looks like a bomb hit it with the flowers I am making. It's been fun though.
    Your parcel went off today!

  2. That spooky staircase is looking good m'dear! Can't wait to see it finished. What a great idea for "shadow". Now I wanna paint a spooky staircase, lol. I totally relate to your haphazard note taking and phone number keeping system. I have a "trash" spiral bound book in my drawer next to where I sit so no matter what I want to do, test a color or write down a phone number or an upcoming blockbuster movie I want to see, the paper is always there. I do have to alway be searching for a page not already covered in ink, scribbles etc though, lol.
    Hugs my friend,

  4. Hi Vonny
Thanks for your visit lat week when I went AWOL with comments. Love the room you have, so light and airy, a great place for painting with all that natural light.
What a great painting you are doing at the moment, very theatrical and definitely gives the illusion you were seeking.
    Thanks for sharing.

  5. Ohhh your shadowy painting is looking a treat already. Can't wait to see the finished creation. I have waited patiently for a kitchen and now that it is so close I can't believe it is going to happen. Will post a pic of the end result.

  7. I'm sat reading my WOYWW blogs on my sick bed this week but have my mask on so you don't catch anything. I'm enjoying reading what everyone is up to this week [it's better than reading magazines :-) ]. I'm leaving a copied comment so you know I've called by because my hands are too weak and shaky to keep typing out my comments this week.
    Big hugs,

  10. Your painting is lovely and can't wait to see the spooky shadowy part take shape..but i have to tell you that the phone bokk/wall stapling is taking center stage.

I have a lovely book and it does have about 90% of the phone numbers and addresses I need penned down in it....but...
the other 10% are little snippets of torn envelopes an little snippets of scraps of papers just shoved under the front cover, waiting to be filied...somehow I only seem to get that done when it is bursting out the sides!!!! hangs head in shame at this confession!

Me thinks there are going to be more confessions on your post replies!!!

  18. I'm loving this whole shot..so much to rummage in. And hey, I'm not knocking your phone book system...if it works for you, I like it! I absolutely love the arched stairway..part of a quiet fascination I have for doors and openings in architecture...and knowing how you layer the detail, I'm looking forward to seeing more!

  19. Have I ever seen such a view of your desk and room? I don't think so. Nice view! It looks so spacious and bright and filled with happy stuff, not a dreary clutter like I have. I'm all for your phone book system if it works for you. Great painting! I'll stay tuned for how it comes along.

  20. Your space looks well used not untidy! the telephone directory system sounds good to me if it works for you , who cares what others think.! The staircase will be awesome when finished. I couldn't even get a staircase to look like it went up never mind a twisty one with shadows!!

  21. Love your creative space, Vonny - it's so bright and busy and full of... stuff!! Your phone directory is a bit like mine - lots of loose bits of paper floating around! I do have a proper one on the computer but for regular phone calls when I can't be bothered to turn on the computer, the bits of paper do fine.

I love your painting so far. Really looking forward to seeing how it progresses. I like the idea of a painting which leads you to... who knows where or what? A bit of mystery is always intriguing!

Thanks for your lovely comment - glad you enjoyed what I did this week! I love my mp3s - I can listen wherever I like with my iPod, which is one of the best things I've ever bought. Now, what am I going to do with all those old tapes...

    Happy WOYWW,
