WOYWW The birds have come home to roost

My birdies came home with me today
and here they are ...

I'm really pleased with how they came out
and even better, my friend bought the painting
so I can visit them as often as I like.

My desk this week is covered in
naughty things and I blame
the bad influence of the lovely
stamping ladies for my
indiscretion.

 Yes, that's right,
all I went to the shop for was
some green and red card
and this is what I came back with.
Now don't get excited,
it's not for me.
I made the mistake of
taking little Miss with me
and she "needed" all of this
and what else is mum's credit card for!!

 These stamps are so cute

luckily I won't be touching them
or goodness knows how they would come out!!

There are also bits of my Christmas cards
that I'm still trying to paint and make
and some Doctor Who things,
it's the 50th anniversary this weekend.
The scary thing is I've been watching
for nearly that long!

Lastly, here is my new canvas,
now I know you all saw the bird on there last week
but here it is now

You knew it was there all the time
didn't you.

That's my desk for this week,
now why don't you hop over to
and see the other desks around the world
this WOYWWednesday
but be warned, it's contagious.

  5. Wow, I LOVE that painting..so vibrant and full of movement. You are very talented, Von. I like to see how you start your paintings as well, so thank you for showing how you've drawn in the basic parrot over the splodgy background. You'll have to take step by step photos and make them into a montage of the process.

Was so bummed when you said your friend bought the painting. I just love all the colors you use for the parrots, but then again that is the only bird I really like.

  15. Wow! I thought we had seriously perverted you with all that stamping stash. Well, little miss was right, of course that is what mum's credit card is for. She got such great stuff. I love how your painting came out. It is even more colorful than before. The birds look almost dimensional.

  17. Hey there - congratulations on already selling those glorious birds!! And so great that you can keep visiting them. Well done. Fabulous stash for Little Miss - are you going to get her to make your cards for you??!! Thanks for visiting already - the ball of wool is arran weight, and was a 400gm ball. Two make a jumper - not a lot of ends to sew in! Yes, the pergamano is busy again - made another cracker the other day, and now I'm working on a really difficult Christmas card - it's several degrees harder than anything I have ever made before - the words "bitten" and "chew" come to mind. Not sure yet if I will be able to accomplish it - we'll see.
    Have a great week.

  21. Congratulations for the sale! I understand why she bought it, it´s simply gorgeous!
About the watercolour: One more thing: IF you want to paint on an allready painted surface that are still wet; you must mix the colour with more pigments, otherwise the old pigments will "go away" from the new colour. I call those patterns that will be created "cauliflowers". Sometimes those are very beautyful patterns and can be used when painting trees or bushes for instance. If you want an even surface you must never put new colour on paint that is allready on the paper and still wet. The first glaze of colour will then leave as a Tsunami from an eartquake. This doesn´t allways show emediatelly that much, but shows more and more as the paper is drying, depending what kind of paper you use. Hope this will be usefull for you!
