Birdie fun for WOYWW

Here is my desk

I have started on Christmas ideas
for cards and I'm reading a book
(well trying anyway)
on colours with paint.

I'm toying with the idea of Egbert
with a Christmas pud
and if I get some time I'll paint some cards
and send them.

I noticed something on my desk today and
it made me laugh.
My friend sent me a calendar from England
and I noticed the November page
was a couple skating in the snow.
Somehow it looks a little odd next to my window.

It's hot and we haven't had any rain to speak of
for ages. The fountain is empty, so is my water tank
and the grass is all but dead.  Then there's
a picture of these two all dressed up in their winter

I was a silly moo today,
yeah I know, what's new,
but today my silliness was fortuitous.

You see, I forgot my reading glasses
when I went to my painting class
this morning.  I had my distance glasses
but they are so distant that anything
within a few feet is a blur.
Luckily I can plop my distance glasses up on my head
and see something really close with just my eyes
but only for a short time.
I use my reading glasses for anything
that is a few feet or closer.
This can be quite a pain when you need
to move in and out as I have to keep swapping eyes.
I did try the hanging them on a cord around the neck trick
but I almost strangled myself too many times
and even the optometrist said don't bother
trying to use the graduated glasses
(she knows me well).
Sorry, I digress,
I had to finish my Lorikeet painting today
and it was sweeping colour glaze.
It seems I'm better at this when I can't see a thing
than when I can see.
I remembered to take photos this time,
they are on my phone so apologies
for the bad shots.

The glaze is still wet and there is a lot of shine
in the photo but the colours
are bright and wonderful in real life.

I've already started on my next one

There's only one lorikeet in this one
but you can see that can't you ;)

That's my desk for this week,
when I get the painting home
I might do a post with photos
of all the stages
if anyone is interested.

No why don't you hop on over to
and see all the other desks
around the world
this hot and dry

  1. Your painting is amazing. I love the vibrant colors. #13

  2. Hey Vonny, love your painting, beautiful work. I have agree with you about painting on anything that takes your hubby often says if he sat still long enough I would use him as a canvas. Happy Crafting De De #37

  3. Love your painting, thanks for sharing, Donna #45

  4. LOVE the painting, it is gorgeous! Silly you with the wrong glasses... lol! Hope you enjoy your calendar - it does look incongruous next to your bright sunny garden!

  5. Your art is amazing!
Would love for you to share it with us at Inspire Me Monday at

    Create With Joy

    Happy WOYWW! :-)

  6. Jealous of the sunshine
Jealous of your wonderful talent for painting
Fully understanding of the glasses thing haha
    Lynn xx

  7. Hi there. Just popping my head round the door to say hi.
Thanks for the peek into your creative world today. LOVE the painting! So much vibrancy and movement in it.
Hope you have a good week too.

  8. I am so envious of your view! I want a palm tree outside my window!! Not fair - humph!
It is bitterly cold over here...I am wearing a coat in my office at the moment and my fingers are cold. Care to swap?
Anyway - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your birds are exquisite!!! So vibrant and beautiful! Amazing! And I will humour you and say I can tell there is only one bird... But I am fibbing really because I can't see anything yet, lol! ;0)

  9. Of course we can see the birdie in the second picture. Actually, we thought your first shot was a painting rather than the view from your window!

    The bears #74

  10. I am going to be extra cheeky and ask if the parakeets painting is for sale? I love it so much! x

  11. I LOVE your blog header picture! WOW! And your painting, can you see me drooling? Fabulous!!! Happy WOYWW!
    Carol N #76

  12. Well, if your going to sale the beautiful parakeets, it must be an auction, because I'd like a chance to own it too....LOL! Your work is unbelievable, love, love the picture of Charlie too.
    Thanks for the earlier visit.
    Krisha #4

  13. I simply LOVE your painting with all those gorgeous colours!!

  14. Oh my life..the colours and energy..I smile too at the thought of you being much happier with applying that coat of glaze without close up vision...isn't it funny what ends up giving you confidence when out of our comfort zones! and of course, I can totally see just the one on the new canvas. of course! so funny to see you window wide open and ice skaters on your sill....hang on, when I say funny..I think I mean I'm jealous..

  15. Wow! These lorikeets are stunning, stunning, stunning - I can almost hear those wing beats as they pass! I did laugh about the November skaters! And the glasses! Mine always get tangled in my hair when I put them on my head. This always happens when I'm teaching a student and I have to disentangle while trying to explain Shakespeare! I always feel a fool! Have a great day and a fantastic week! Julie Ann xx #33

  16. Vonny I love the swirl of colors you have captured, this so reminds me of all you see when they take to flight in masses when something spooks them whilst feeding here at home. Hoping you have received some of the rain and storms that have been around the past few days. Have a great week! Danie #31

  17. Well done, Yvonne - finished! Of course we can see the one and only lorikeet in the other painting!! Er - swooping down from on high?
Have a great, warm, week - we are getting cold and wet here!!
    Margaret #42

  18. Vonny, what an amazing job you have done with the lorikeets! You have such an original and stunning style!! I loved getting a peek behind the scenes to see where you work. You have a very entertaining blog! Good luck with the next painting!

  19. Thanks for your wonderful comments. Have a great week. De De

  20. Wow, what a gorgeous, vibrant painting! Your birds look as if they will fly right out into the room at any moment. Hope you're having a good week. Happy WOYWW (a day late) from Laura #16

  21. It does feel like they are flying across the canvas! I'd love to see a step-by-step blog--yes! You are so funny. Nope--can't exactly see the one lorikeet on the new canvas--LOL!
I am very late getting back to you, but we are having a heat wave here. Supposed to get up near 50 degrees, so there's no skating here today, either. Could have been a couple days ago when it was in the teens, though--LOL! :) #85

I really love getting comments but due to a high amount of spam I had to take the anonymous user off of the comments. Sorry to those who can't leave a comment.
Thanks, Von.
