I'm late posting today
that's because I'm another year older today
and I'm getting slower in my old age.
Today I'm forty-twelve,
I can't bring myself to say the other 'F' word
cos I'm sure I couldn't be that old.
I still feel like I'm in my thirties.
I had a great day, art class this morning
and my lovely friend Lea
took me out to lunch.
Thanks again for that Lea.
Here is my desk today
How cute is this fella.
My wonderful hubby gave me this teapot for my birthday.
I just love quirky things.
Oooh I can feel a watercolour painting coming on!!!
Earlier in the week I decided to do an ink canvas
and boy was that a mess
It started out okay, this is the gloopy stuff.
Then trouble, dummy here forgot to put a high bit of
something in the centre of the painting and all the ink flowed
to the low point.
I had to hold it perfectly flat and get little miss to put some
bits and pieces under it to flatten it out a bit.
The ink has dried a lot here, I was too busy with the wet puddly ink to take a photo. |
You have to hit the ink hard with water spray and that
makes a huge mess so I had to cover the floor and
cupboards with plastic, but then I oopsed.
Have you ever wondered what happens if you shake
a full bottle of white ink and forget to put the lid on??
Yep, it was everywhere, all over the cupboard, the floor, me
and it hit the old computer on the floor.
I wiped all the floor and cupboards quickly before it dried
but this sorta got missed, ewww.
Lucky I don't need the screen anymore!
Here is my fish painting from class today.
I think it's hideous but the teacher assured me it is
just as it should be.
Just looks like a mess to me but I'm determined
to do it the proper way and hope for the best.
Here is the ink canvas as it is now.
I still have a lot of work to do on it
but it's getting there.
Well that's my fun for the week.
I'm off to start dinner,
so hop on over to Julia's
and see the other desks
around the world
this wednesday.
I'm going to be controversial here....but what is the 'proper way'?? Because I adore your work the way you normally do it and that fishy painting, while it is lovely, isn't you..... What is the tutor trying to get you to achieve? I think you have a wonderful, innate sense of colour and movement and could probably tell the teacher a thing or two!! In my humble opinion.....cough... ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust ignore me!!
Hugs, LLJ 63 xx
I like the painting Vonny. It looks good to me. I always find when I don't like something I have done. Stop, ponder and go back to it with fresh eyes - works wonders. Have fun with your inks - love those spooky sharks in the shadows. Happy WOYWW from Helen 71 x
ReplyDeleteVonny, I'm with Lunch lady Jan - I just love the movement and glorious colours of the coral reef you put into your pictures - When I did my City and Guilds the other year, I discovered that "anything goes" when doing art stuff. I still reckon I abused my sewing machine - but managed to bring my own style into what I did. I'm sure that learning techniques is right - otherwise they would be lost forever, and that wouldn't be good - but your art work is just instinctive and shows a tremendous love of your surroundings and the glorious creation you have in your back garden.
ReplyDeleteTake heart - at 40-12 you are still young. I shall be 63 in 6 weeks - aaaarggghh!!!! But surely, I'm still only 22??
Have a great week - loved the tale of the painting and the ink - you had us laughing out loud.

Happy Birthday...a milestone and what a lovely teapot. I too love the unusual. Your canvas has great color and I love the texture "Gloopy". Not being very artistic I think both are super, fish and all. Your paint mess reminds me of my day in the kitchen when popping pop corn I forgot the cover..went to the garage for a minute...wow the cats left for the basement and never came up for quite a while, I suppose the noise, grease, and popcorn flying all around scared them..... a true mess. Enjoy WOYWW #83 and CELEBRATE.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you
ReplyDeleteThe bears want some cake
Squish some in a baggy
And send it by freight.
Hmm, poetry skills need work! We love your paintings, don't bow to convention, your art rocks. X
The bears @#99
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...you young chick! :D
ReplyDelete(I'm only 19 so can only wonder at your wisdom now that you've reached forty-twelve! ;D
I adore your tea pot too. He's just so cute...but technically I suppose he is a she!
Never mind the mess Von, your paintings are fantastic. I love the vibrant colours that you use and they are always so fluid which works perfectly when painting fish. By the way I agree with LLJ's comment too.
I haven't made it to WOYWW this week, but don't worry I will and I won't forget to show everyone your fantastic card and necklace that you kindly sent to me.
Chat again soon xoxo
I am not sure what is 'wrong' with your work as I think it's brilliant!! love the teapot. I wish I was forty 12, then again if I was I wouldn't have my lovely grandchildren and be free to enjoy them :-) Anne x #90
ReplyDeleteFirst things first, Happy Birthday you are only as old as you feel so don't worry on that count.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your ink canvas and your art from this morning looks amazing. We are always to hard on ourselves when it comes to our own work.
What a shame about the white ink going everywhere a real ooops moment
Have a really great WOYWW and enjoy the rest of your week

Happy birthday, from one who was forty-twelve a few years ago... Love your painting, but what a shame about the ink... I hope no-one laughed... Enjoy the rest of your day. Helen 8
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I am like Helen and remember forty-twelve being a few years ago! I still feel about 24 and I love life, so don't worry and stop counting! Oh, you coped so calmly with the ink explosion! I think I would have stood in the middle of the room screaming! I like your painting and certainly don't think it hideous! Happy WoYWW! ReplyDeleteHello and happy birthday on here, Im still a newbie. I think your work is great and your way to hard on your self. look at it again from a different point of view. Its really pretty awesome! Well Im off to look at more desk. Have a great day Robera 26
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Vonny, I am loving your your Mad Cow pics and your wonderful tea pot,my sister is cow crazy and she would just adore these. I think your works in progress are coming along so wonderfully. I can't wait to see your koi canvas finished, and I am loving the wonderful color and texture of your ink painting. I commiserate with you over your ink spill, its always the way isn't it, one cap left off you are sure to knock it over. It could be a new thing you have started however in personalizing your computer equipment as a new art form. Hope you have a wonderful week. Danie #17
ReplyDeleteDisasters will happen in a room full of liquids, right? LOL!
ReplyDeleteLearning a completely different technique can be a trial. All you can do is go with it and see what happens.
I love your cow teapot!!!!! And your new painting, too.
WOYWW#116 :)
I love all your paintings, wish I could spend a day with you. The new ink one is fab, and the fish are amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhoops about the ink, anything spilling goes a very long way - I did a good number with a tub of gesso I dropped.
Happy Belated Birthday too.

Happy birthday a day or so late. Love that tea pot. And I also love those fish. I can't understand what you don't like about them. They are superb.
ReplyDeleteHad to laugh about the white paint. Believe me, I've done exactly the same thing, except my paint was copper. It's still on things like a hammer and part of my floor.
Happy slightly belated WOYWW from #10.
Okay so I'm the only one chuckling about the white ink ? Sorry :) I chuckle 'cause I do that quite often when trying to open something. Ooh Happy Birthday! Not sure where being forty twelve puts you but it can't be ThAT old! Love the ink canvas! The fish, while I'm new to your blog, I get the sense that it's really not your style, and thus you are unhappy with it. Have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for the earlier visit! Happy WOYWW! Nan G #1
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed your birthday! Love the cow, what a great present for someone who likes the unusual! Your latest ink piece may have had some problems but it looks fabulous (and we will ignore the white paint incident)! Apologies for my late arrival of doing the round of WOYWW desks! Annette #6
ReplyDeleteROFL Vonny, you do make me laugh! Little Mrs Perfectionist at work again lol! I think your work is stunning and you always describe it in negative terms! If I had half your talent... Forty Twelve? Lol! You should try being Fifty Ten!! Happy belated birthday - love the quirky teapot. I love a touch of the old quirks too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment. Yes, I'm super-thrilled to be having a sink in my new ARTHaven. As for my stuff coming in, it's even altering the quality of the sound in there, even though I've only brought a few bits in so far. I can see how much organising I'm going to have to do to get it right, but even if it's a long process, I think it will be a fun one.
Happy belated WOYWW,
