The eyes have it, well, maybe not.

Which of these glasses are more useful?
(Answer at the bottom of the post)

For pretty much the whole of this year
I have been struggling with my painting.
I've blamed loss of mojo,
lack of ability,
lack of inspiration,
lack of just about everything.

My work was wonky and just not right
and this weekend I had an epiphany.
I was sitting in bed trying to read the sunday paper,
with my eyes streaming tears and terrible
stabbing pains in my right eye ,
dang this rotten hayfever I was spurting.
Then it happened,
I closed one eye and couldn't see a thing,
then I closed the other eye
(yes, I opened the other one back up)
and couldn't see a thing either.

A trip to the optometrist on tuesday
confirmed my suspicions,
I need new glasses!!!!

(These are my nasty old readers and if you noticed the nose thingy on the right, it isn't painted backwards.  It is on the wrong way and I never noticed until I just painted them).

The optometrist was amazed I could see anything at all,
she must have seen my quizzed look
and explained that I had not updated my reading glasses since 2006,
my sunnies since 2008 and my normal glasses since 2010.
OOPS.

Now I have never been a normal person,
just ask anyone who knows me,
and I have always had one long sighted and
 one short sighted eye.
Now I have two shortsighted eyes but they aren't the same
short sightedness.

Hence, I have trouble with perspective
and that's why my paintings have been so off
and why the walls keep jumping out in front of me.

By the end of next week
I should have three new pairs of glasses
and a new found
excitement with painting.

I'm sure that knowing the facts,
you will excuse the wonkiness
 of this painting.

The answer to the question is:

The drinking glass!
At least I can enjoy some booze
while wearing a pair of these
useless glasses.

Come to think of it
my sight would be the same
drunk or not!!

Hurry up new glasses!

I'm linking up to paint party friday
for the first time in ages.

  2. You made me smile! Great post. Enjoyed your joke about the wine glass :) Being able to see sure does help with creating art and being inspired/motivated. I know when I go for my bi-annual check up I'm always surprised at the difference new glasses make. The world is crisp and the colours more fascinating. Your drawing looks pretty good to me, can't wait to see what you produce with new eye wear and the ability to see better.

  4. Loving the painting of the specs........hayfever is such a nuisance, eyes running, sneezing and generally not looking good.....you have my sympathy as a fellow sufferer.

Glad you figured it out!! I asked a friend if she needed reading glasses yet...she said no.....next time I saw her she said she never needed them until I mentioned it....I think we often struggle not realizing what's wrong.... she too enjoyed new glasses....being such a reader!!

  7. New glasses will be a godsend....I was chuckling because I would go looking for my reading glasses and they would be on top of my head, not all nice and neat together like your beautiful sketch. Happy PPF

  8. Yay...I got the answer right Von, Cheers!
Wonky you say? Oh my, I wish my paintings were wonky if that's how they would look! ;D
    They are brilliant.

Hey just a thought...maybe you could come here with your new ones and help me find my reading glasses? They went walkabout on one of our doggy walks and I haven't seen them since! :(
If you paint like that with old glasses I can't wait to see when you have your new eyes!

Enjoy your weekend and watch out for those walls sweetie :D

  9. Oh, wow! this is going to make a world of difference. I know when I finally get new glasses it sure has. (I have gone up to 6-7 years before, so don't feel badly--and I'm terribly nearsighted with astigmatism and bifocals!) Looking forward to your new view on life--LOL! ;)

  10. AM sure your new glasses will give you a new Look on Life - I too have readers and looking glasses - and if I'm reading, then go to another room, then decide I need my regular glasses back on - I can't find them.. the constant battle with which pair to wear, and where are the pair I need to wear...LOL!

  11. Well, regardless of how bad those glasses were for you... you made them beautiful! This is a gorgeous illustration, and the bottom glasses are the best I have seen in a long time.

  12. What a great post and I love the eye glasses all sitting in and around the drinking glass - a really clever composition. Funny enough I have noticed in the last year that I can't read small writing on packets of food any more and my sister gave me a pair of her generic store bought reading glasses to try and wow what a difference - I went and ordered a pair right away although I could probably do with getting a proper prescription pair!

  13. That's a very clever composition, VonnyK, and very well executed as well. Blessings!

  14. Love the painting and the story! Who says wonky is bad? It is only another way of expressing oneself. If you feel wonky, paint wonky!

  15. Loved your story...thank goodness you figured out you needed a visit to the eye doctor. Your painting is fabulous!
