Eye to brain to hand, no can do for WOYWW

I wish I could say that I've cleaned up
my desks, I did do it in my mind
but the hands weren't willing.
It's really neat if you look past all the junk

There are four desks in my room,
if you look hard enough.
To the right is my big 'L' shaped desk,
at the back is my inking desk,
in the middle is my mobile desk
and to the left is my credenza/desk.
Actually I have an extra one,
on the floor is my tub full of desky things.

This is what I take to class and it's full of all sorts
of painty things like paint (duh), brushes, glazes,
pots etc.
Here is my inking station, wow, that sounds very official
it's really just a space to put all my inks and bits.

As you can see, all very well organised
(cough, cough).
Despite this mess and my teacher
trying to give me heart attacks,
 I've nearly finished three paintings.
Love the colours but have to paint in his face yet.

Boat colours are roughed in and needs to be finished.

Needs a little bit more colour in a few spots.
If you're wondering what the title is all about,
I have joined a sketch book class
and was trying to practise before it begins.
One exercise is to look at a cup and draw it
without looking, sounds easy and probably should be,
as long as you are not me.
I had an almighty row going on in my brain when I tried this.
You see, your eyes are supposed
to tell your brain what they see
and then the brain is supposed to tell the hand
what to draw but in my case
my hand is very strong willed and it was yelling at my eyes
saying it's always done the drawing and
back off eyes or else.
You can imagine how noisy it was getting
in my little brain with the tooing and froing
between my eyes and hand.
Needless to say, the hand won this round,
(the drawing was terrible)
my brain has no right or left side
just a muddle in the middle
and my eyes don't want to play any more.

This is going to be a long and
very noisy (in my brain)
sketch book course,
just hope I survive.
Wonder if the eyes will
eventually win the war.

While my hands and eyes are still working,
on the keyboard at least,
I'll end off
but first why not hop over to
and see the the more normal people
are doing on this
work desk wednesday.

I finished my Sailboat picture the other day.

  1. My you have been busy! And I LOVE that... I'm going to steal that quote and use it re my house...'If you look through all the crap, my house is actually immaculate!' Hehe! ;0)
It's nice to have so much on the go and it all looks amazing - my favourite (though I love them all) is the boat. That water movement looks incredible and those colours... wow! I am really looking forward to seeing how they all end up! :0)

  2. Hi Vonny, happy WOYWW....super to see your three artworks coming along - they look amazing, so vibrant and alive...never mind the organised work mess, you feel comfortable there so tell the eyes to get back to the canvases. Cheers and enjoy your week RobynO#27

You have such a distinctive style.

  14. Vonny- your work is beyond words. Love the iris oil on canvas and the sailboat painting you just finished. Such vibrant colors!

Thanks for sharing your space and your projects! Have a wonderful week! Hugs, Kathy Jo #41

  15. Hi Vonny,
Love all those bright colours you use. The pelican is great and I love those sailing boats!
I was just up the shops (and having a coffee) when I read your post. I would've tried to draw my coffee cup but I only had a tiny scrap of paper with my shopping list on it :)

  16. Haha... what a giggle Von,
'The minds willing but the body is weak' is one of my regular sayings... 'I know it might look messy to some but I'm organised and know where everything is' is another one (that is until I try to find something!)
The water series that you've been creating recently are stunning and so vibrant Von, you must be thrilled. The water reflections are amazing and that finished boat painting is exquisite.
I've joined an art/drawing class and we had to draw a cup in the first lesson but we could look at the cup. No wonder your mind, eye and hand co-ordination went awol.
Your mess (cough) sorry your neat desks produce should amazing art that I think you should keep them any way you like! ;D
Have fun and I'll see you again soon for our next giggle.
(p.s. can you send me some sun please? We've been living in fog for the last week and that's not my state of mind... it's a weather fact!)

  17. I am loving all the colour and energy in the new work... It is so perfectly you... As is the whole brain yelling at your eyes thing lol... You crack me up sometimes... I am also going to use the it is clean and tidy just under all the mess thought... Sounds perfect

  18. Lovely to see the finished sailboat, and that pelican is something else!
    Thanks for your visit
    Debs x
